Body Hair Transplant: A Whole New Dimension To Hair Restoration Procedures
With hair restoration procedures revolutionizing rapidly, surgeons are thinking outside the box more and more for ways to challenge hair loss and make hair regrowth a reality to the many suffering from hair loss. One of the challenges surgeons are facing is trying to perform a successful body hair transplant on men suffering from hair loss on other parts of the body. A growing number of men are coming forward now with the hope of restoring hair on places like the arms and chests. Body hair transplant procedures are growing in numbers as they become more and more successful.
Body hair transplants consist of transplanting hair from one part of the body to another, or using donor hair from the body to implant in the scalp as another hair replacement option. These transplant procedures are performed using the FUE method and cannot be done using the traditional strip extraction. It is therefore imperative that the surgeon is very skilled at this practice and and as a result, only a handful of hair restoration clinics provide this service.
Body Hair Transplant for Scalp
The idea of transplanting body hair to the scalp came about when hair restoration surgeons realised that patients could effectively have a limitless supply of hair if the donor hair available on their scalp is too little. In the majority of cases of those undergoing hair transplant surgery, there is usually an abundance of donor hair available on the sides and back of the scalp. It is usually here where hair grafts are extracted from. However, there is always a small number of people who may have thinning hair or in extreme cases no hair in these areas, and up until this point, surgical hair restoration was not a viable option for them.
Now, for men in this position, who happen to have a dense amount of body hair, surgical hair restoration can in fact be a possibility. The donor hair could effectively be taken form the arms, legs, chest, stomach or back, as long as there is enough. As with any FUE transplantation, the hair follicles are extracted using miniscule punch grafts and implanted into the scalp as one and two hair grafts. And to assure a more natural look, the hair grafts are implanted at the exact angle and direction they would grow in on the scalp.
Chest Hair Transplant
In the case of a chest hair transplant, the hair is usually taken from the scalp of a full headed male. This hair is similar to that on the body in its growth pattern as well as texture and other characteristics. Once transplanted, the hairs tend to fall out at around two weeks, but start to regrow again in three months and are permanent. The hairs then continue to grow and you may find monthly trimming a requirement. In using the FUE method, a chest hair transplant can leave you with the desired effect you have always wanted, and in many cases take just one procedure. For a thick, maximum density chest effect, a second procedure is required. Take a look at the video below of a chest hair transplant that has just been performed.
Body hair transplants are most commonly applied to the chest, but they can also work on the pubis, arms, axilla and any other areas where hair is thin to non-existent. It can be used to thicken existing areas of hair or provide hair growth.
